The Invitation:

For most of history, human beings lived immersed in the elements.  Our senses were stretched out in a vast open landscape; every plant, animal, and insect just served to link us more directly to this spacious animated field.  Living this way produced qualities of alertness and awareness that unfortunately do not easily translate into our lives today. Without these ancient forms of awareness, we lose access to many of the essential resources of guidance and connection that have shaped our health, spirit, and well-being for millions of years. And without the deliberate cultivation of these qualities, they lie dormant but abundant, waiting to be reactivated.

This day-long intensive is an invitation to rejoin these ancient conversations. By opening the senses and attending to the full field of experience, we will reclaim ancestral forms of awareness that lie deep in the human past. Participants will be encouraged to develop a practice of outside sitting, both in nature and the urban environment, as a way to heighten sensory awareness and renew a sense of presence. The practice is designed to meet you exactly where you are, regardless of what your inner or outer environment currently looks like, and to empower you with tools and techniques to pick up this ancient conversation again.

In this day-long we will practice time-honored ways to:

  • Gracefully navigate your inner and outer world.
  • Awaken and integrate unconscious parts of yourself.
  • Transcend your limiting identifications.
  • Sharpen your focus, concentration, and clarity.
  • Access resources of energy and nourishment for the parts of you that need it most.

About the facilitator:

For the past 25 years, Mateo Magee has been exploring the wisdom inherent in sacred landscapes.  He has been serving communities around the world as a spiritual teacher, guide, and expedition leader since 1998.  His book, Peruvian Shamanism: The Pachakuti Mesa (2002) was the first written account of an ancient lineage that has been refining Earth-based forms of wisdom for thousands of years.  Despite having several university degrees, Mateo feels his true education was derived from the years he spent living and working alongside First Nation Peoples of both North and South America.  His current spiritual work revolves around postures of receptivity in nature, the power of sacred landscapes, and a deep relationship to stillness and silence.  One of Mateo’s great gifts is his capacity to make complex and elusive spiritual concepts accessible and palatable, building bridges between ancient cultures and modern-day truth seekers.  He considers himself a perpetual student, and his humble, inclusive teaching style creates a safe environment for every soul to enter and stretch out in.

Kathie D'Ariano-Gordnier

"Mateo, Thank you for these wonderful teachings. They allowed me a deeper understanding of our transition/transformation. It gave me a more real sense of letting go. While I am and always will be a work in progress, I can more clearly address these transitions to move forward toward transformation. I found that exploring, researching, and acknowledging those who guide us in unconditional love that this is the path I have always been on. It took me to a place of wisdom imparted to me long ago. It put my re-membering back in view. As I continue on my journey through these Sacred Landscapes I have a better understanding of the process to becoming a hollow bone. I am grateful to have taken this wonderful course work.  In greatest appreciation!"

Robert "Scoop" Geisel

"One of the best presentations I, personally, have ever been part of.  Mateo has the unique ability to present materials in daily living free of self-aggrandizement and with a noticeable lack of ego. This all allows the participants to use and access their own valuable gifts and knowledge to both enhance, color and enlarge the experience of life that is being offered."
